GERATI Healthcare

Manufacturer and exporter of high-precision surgical, dental, laparoscopic and airway instruments, and of laparoscopic training simulators for surgical skills labs. Part of a Sialkot family surgical-instrument business dating to 1972; GERATI Healthcare was founded in 2007 to specialise in minimally invasive surgery instrumentation. Production is in-house end to end — CNC machining, EDM and turning centres, milling, vibratory polishing and fibre laser marking — under ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality management systems, with CE marking under European Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC. Awarded Pakistan's Presidential Award for Excellence in 2015.

GERATI Healthcare designs, develops and manufactures instruments for minimally invasive surgery, and is part of a Sialkot family surgical-instrument business that dates to 1972. The company describes itself as Pakistan's first to design and successfully develop advanced instrumentation for minimally invasive surgery — a deliberate break from the general surgery instruments the Sialkot cluster is better known for — and was selected for the Presidential Award for Excellence in 2015 in recognition of that work.

The published catalogue runs to more than 250 listed items across laparoscopy, dental, laryngoscopes and airway management, neurosurgery and spine, general surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology, ENT, rhinoplasty and emergency medical instruments, in both reusable and single-use formats. The company states a range of over 10,000 instrument types and a presence in more than 30 countries.

Alongside the instrument range GERATI builds laparoscopic training simulators for surgical skills labs and residents — foldable endo-trainers that need no electricity and use a phone or tablet as the camera, supplied with instrument sets, progressive exercise modules, a task manual and progress-monitoring forms. The company states over 1,000 trainers sold globally.

Production is in-house from raw material to finished instrument. The plant runs CNC machining, EDM and turning centres, a milling shop for surgical-grade forged components, vibratory polishing systems for surface finishing, and fibre laser marking for permanent instrument identification and lifetime traceability.

Single-use sterile laparoscopic instruments are classified Class IIb under the European Medical Device Directive, and the company states the corresponding controls: manufacturing and assembly in an ISO 7 / Class 10,000 cleanroom to ISO 14644; risk analysis to ISO 14971; clinical validations to CE requirements; electrical safety testing to IEC 60601; insulation integrity tested against micro-holes and porosities on a Hi-Pot tester; heat-seal process validation to ISO 11607; ethylene oxide sterilisation validated to ISO 11135; biocompatible materials to ISO 10993; terminal packaging in a sterile barrier system; instructions for use and CE-conformant product labels; and product technical files under MDD 93/42/EEC.

Instrument materials are stated as surgical-grade stainless steel (AISI 304/420), with tungsten carbide inserts where cutting life matters. The company states 12 or more quality checks per instrument.

The business was started in 1972 by Mr Mumtaz Bukhari as Metallic Products Corporation, becoming Professional Hospital Furnishers in 1986. GERATI Healthcare — then Intelligent Medical Innovations — was founded in 2007 after a director, Mr Aqeel Abbas, joined an industrial study trip to medical-device research and development centres in Sweden and Germany, and the family business created a separate company to pursue advanced surgical instrumentation independently. The team is described as professional engineers and product designers with experience in electro-medical technology, working directly with laparoscopic surgeons in Pakistan and abroad.

The company also runs laparoscopic training workshops in its domestic market, either handling promotion, organisation, logistics and consumables around a hospital-organised session, or supplying endo-trainers for purchase or rental.
